Clouds were covering the sun, turning every color in the room slightly darker than they were. Snowflakes were slowly falling outside, covering the trees, cars and buildings with a fine white layer. It was the day before Christmas and everyone was out on the streets. You watched as the people in their long coats and scarfs walked by the coffee shop you were working in, too busy to come inside. But you didn't care, you were comfortable with the few people that decided to stay here in the warmth and buy a cup of tea or coffee. Christmas music was playing silently in the radio so you could barely hear it.
You were just cleaning one of the cups, when the doorbell rang, signaling that another costumer has entered the shop. When you looked up you saw that your best friend, Arthur, was said person. He was wearing a long black coat and a gray scarf, his ice skates in his left hand as he was looking around, obviously searching for someone. When his gaze fell upon you, you could see his eyes light up and a smile forming on his face. "Good evening, love. Are you ready?" He asked as he walked up to the counter. You put away the cup you were holding and looked around, noticing that everyone has already left the shop. Huh, I should pay more attention to my surroundings.. You thought. "Sure thing! Let me just get my stuff." You wiped my hands on the little apron you were wearing and went to the back of the shop. In between all the boxes with different tea, coffee or chocolate flavors was your backpack. You packed it this morning, putting in your ice skates, a water bottle and some dry clothes to change, should the weather decide to be awful. You grunted as you lifted it, suddenly realizing how heavy it actually was. Arthur seemed to have heard you, because only a few seconds later you heard him calling out to you. "(y/n)? Are you okay?" You stepped outside to the front again, your eyes shut tight because of the weight on your back. "Yes, I'm fine. Let's go!" Arthur wanted to offer you his help but, knowing you for this long already, he knew that you weren't gonna accept it. So he just opened the door for you as you two walked outside and you closed the shop. You bought the shop when you came here, thinking it would be a good start. It did end up being pretty popular, especially on winter days. You would also sell a lot of coffee to the people who had to work very early.
Arthur opened the passenger's door for you, motioning you to get in the car. "Thanks." you told him, giggling a little bit as he closed the door and walked around the car and sat down in front of the steering wheel next to you. He started the car, turned up the heat a little bit and drove off into the woods with you. It only took a few hours until you arrived at the start of a little path which was leading into the woods. "Are you sure that's the right way?" you asked cautiously. He turned around to look at you and smiled. "Of course it is, trust me." He then took your hand and you two started walking down the path. After what seemed like hours, but was actually just a few minutes, you noticed the darkness around you. You instantly clung tighter to Arthur. He noticed your distress and put his arm around you to comfort you. A light blush appeared on his face but you couldn't see it in the dark.
After a few more minutes, the two of you arrived at a big lake in the middle of the woods. It seemed to be frozen over and the moon was reflecting in it, letting it shine. You smiled at the wonderful sight in front of you. Views like this were part of the reasons why you liked winter so much. Arthur led you to a little bench next to the lake so you could put down your stuff. You pulled out your ice skates and changed into them, watching Arthur do the same. Then you got onto the ice. It seemed thick enough to skate, although you weren't sure about the middle. But after a few rounds, you both felt safe enough to skate on your own. "Hey Arthur, wanna race?" He turned around at the sound of your voice and shot you a confused look. "Are you sure, love? I mean, I don't want you to hurt yourself." You giggled. He was always so protective of you, just as if he was your boyfriend. You blushed at the thought of him and you together, but quickly shook your head and concentrated on the present again. "Yes, on three! One, two.." You got into your starting position and looked over at him doing the same. "...Three!" You shouted, dashing off to the other side of the lake. Arthur tried to follow you, but you were much faster than him. At the middle of the lake you suddenly stopped, hearing a crack underneath your feet. "Arthur, DON'T MOVE!" You shouted over to him and he immediately stopped as well. You slowly looked down at your feet. A small crack was forming directly underneath them. You tried to move but it seemed to only worsen your situation. "What's wrong, (Name)?" You didn't answer. You just stared at your feet, your eyes wide in shock and your mouth hanging slightly open. You couldn't speak, you couldn't breathe. You could just... stare. "(Name)?" You moved your right foot just a little bit.
And that's when everything went down. The crack spread out in a matter of seconds, making the ice break into pieces and you falling into the water. The time seemed to slow down as you screamed for help and Arthur rushed to your side, reaching for you. The water slowly consumed you, taking away every little breath you had left. You tried to swim to the surface, but your heavy clothes and your ice skates dragged you down further. You couldn't breathe, but you couldn't hold your breath anymore. Water filled your lungs and everything went dark. The last thing you saw was light and a hand reaching for you, grabbing your arm and pulling you up.
~*Time skip just because I can*~
You coughed and spit out water, taking some breaths in between. You open your (e/c) eyes slightly, looking directly into Arthur's green ones. He looked worried, but slightly more relieved now that you were awake. You tried to sit up, but he only pushed you back down. "Don't... You should rest." You coughed once again. "Thank you.." you whispered. Your throat still hurt too much to talk any louder. "..Arthur?" He was just about to put another blanket around you and looked at you curiously. "Yes, love?" You smiled as he called you 'love'. It made your heart flutter and your stomach feel weird. "I.." Your eyes closed slowly. You were very tired from the day, so tired, you didn't even notice that you were lying in Arthur's bed. "...I love you.." You mumbled as you fell asleep. Arthur smiled at your sleeping form, kissing your forehead and turning of the light next to the bed. Before he left the bedroom, he turned around to you once again and said:
"I love you too, (Name)"
